Employee Portrait of the Week - Betty Bunce

Betty Bunce didn’t list dancing as one of her sports, but she did a jig during a port call in San Juan during Chain cruise 57 in 1966. Betty rowed her dory almost daily when ashore—a publication called “Ergo Update” noted in its spring 1989 issue that Betty held the world record for women aged 70 to 79 on the Concept II Rowing Ergometer for 2,500 meters. At sea, Betty often kept in shape with a punching bag. When she punched it overboard one day, she got the ship turned around to pick it up! (WHOI Archives Photo)
