Employee Portrait Gallery — Charlie Peters
Charlie Peters, left, and Fred Sayles work on the WHIMP (Woods Hole Interstitial Marine Probe) in 1979. They are mounting a controller that triggered bottom photographs once the instrument landed on the seafloor. Fred observes that it is a testament to Charlie’s ingenuity that this unique instrument remained in use for some 20 years, an unusual feat in the rapidly evolving world of marine science.
