Employee Portrait Gallery — Nat Corwin
Nat Corwin, left, and Dean Bumpus plot bottom contours of the Aegean Sea. While the purpose of the cruise was to prepare bathymetric charts of the area for use by U.S. submarines in the event of a Soviet naval threat from the Black Sea, the scientific party took the opportunity to do physical and chemical sampling, plankton hauls, seismic reflection, camera stations, and wave and other measurements in an area that was little-known at the time.
