Employee Portrait Gallery — Frank Carey

Employee Portrait of the Week - Art Newhall

Frank Carey (yellow suspenders) and colleagues outfit a blue shark with transmitters aboard Oceanus in 1989. Calmed by a seawater hose in its mouth and a dark cloth over its eyes, the shark allowed attachment of two transmitters that would register depth, water and body temperature, and cranial temperature. After the shark was returned to the water, the ship followed it to record transmitted data. (Photo by Doug Mayer)
